Cam Little boots 57-yarder as time expires, Jaguars stun Eagles 19-17 in London
A 57-yard game-winner by Cam Little — set up by a 53-yard return and a missed extra point — capped a chaotic finish at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
LONDON — Cam Little, who grew up playing soccer and watching the Premier League every weekend, calmly drilled a 57-yard field goal as time expired at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to lift the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 19-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Little, wearing a Manchester United jersey at his postgame media availability, sprinted from midfield into the end zone and celebrated with an arms-wide salute modeled after Jude Bellingham. "It was the coolest moment of my career," he said.
The stunning finish was spawned by Ameer Abdullah's 53-yard kickoff return that left one second on the clock, giving Little the chance after the Eagles had taken a 17-16 lead on Jake Elliott's 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining. The sequence followed Little's missed extra point after Parker Washington's 27-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Jacksonville was operating with backup long snapper DaVon Hamilton after Ross Matiscik departed with an apparent injury.
Trevor Lawrence went 24-of-39 for 331 yards, throwing two touchdown passes to Washington and one interception; Washington finished with six catches for 124 yards, including a 51-yard scoring strike in the first quarter. Little had earlier converted a 34-yard field goal in the third to pull the Jaguars within 14-10. A would-be 90-yard opening kickoff return by rookie Josh Cameron was wiped out by offsetting penalties, one of them a hold by Branson Combs. "One of the craziest games, maybe the craziest game I’ve ever been a part of," Lawrence said.
Philadelphia, playing without Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith and operating with a makeshift offensive line, managed just 22 rushing yards. Jalen Hurts completed 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and threw a 62-yard touchdown to Darius Cooper, while Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter recorded two sacks and forced two fumbles. Late in the first half, linebacker Zack Baun denied Jacksonville on fourth-and-goal from the 1 by getting past Chris Rodriguez Jr. and tackling Bhayshul Tuten for a loss — a play that drew an exuberant reaction from coach Nick Sirianni.
The contest was physical throughout: a midfield scrum produced pushing and shoving and led to the ejections of Jacksonville's Bryan Thomas Jr. and Philadelphia's Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Injuries also piled up — Jaguars left tackle Anton Harrison was carted off with an apparent right knee problem and long snapper Matiscik left with a shoulder issue, while the Eagles lost several contributors during the game. Sirianni accepted responsibility for the end-of-game sequence, saying, "I didn't make the right decision, and I lost us that game." Philadelphia will host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday; the Jaguars will remain in London to host the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium next Sunday.
