Nola stifles Mets as Phillies prevail 3-0 amid scary on-field collision

Aaron Nola set the tone, allowing three hits across seven innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Mets 3-0. Nola struck out four and issued three walks in a start that moved him to 7-10 and continued a strong run — he is 4-2 with a 2.07 ERA in his last 10 starts. He didn’t yield a baserunner until Nick Morabito’s one-out single in the sixth.
The scoring came the old-fashioned way. Bryce Harper delivered an RBI single and Luis Arraez and Justin Crawford produced sacrifice flies to plate the other runs, enough support for a shutout win.
The Mets starter Nolan McLean (11-10) lasted five innings, giving up one run on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Jonathan Bowlan got two outs in the eighth before leaving with right groin tightness while the count was 2-2 on Francisco Lindor; Phillies manager Don Mattingly said Bowlan would be re-evaluated Friday. Jhoan Duran worked a one-hit ninth for his 32nd save in 34 chances, completing Philadelphia’s major league-high 19th shutout, the team’s most since 21 in 2011. The game was interrupted in the sixth when Mets first baseman Jared Young was knocked down after Nolan McLean struck him on the head with a knee as the two converged on Crawford’s slow grounder; Young was motionless on the field, carted to a hospital and, according to New York manager Andy Green, had a negative CT scan but concussion symptoms. Philadelphia is 85-68, the same as the Chicago Cubs, and closed within four games of NL East-leading Atlanta (89-64). New York has been blanked 15 times, second-most in the majors behind Cincinnati’s 17.
